Understanding Uterine Fibroids (Embolization)

Uterine fibroids are common non-cancerous growths in the wall of the uterus that can cause heavy periods, pelvic pressure and, when large, bladder or bowel symptoms.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a minimally invasive, uterus-sparing treatment done by an interventional radiologist. Through a pinhole in the wrist or groin, tiny particles block the fibroids' blood supply so they shrink. It avoids major surgery and keeps the uterus.
