Understanding Rectal Prolapse
Rectal prolapse is when part or all of the rectum slides down and protrudes through the anus. It is most common in older adults, particularly women, and in people with a long history of constipation and straining.
Prolapse does not improve without surgery. The rectum is fixed back into position either through the abdomen (laparoscopic rectopexy, often the most durable option) or through the anus (perineal repair, suited to frailer patients). Your surgeon recommends the approach based on your age, fitness and the degree of prolapse.
Ayushman Surgicare coordinates the colorectal specialist, diagnostics, hospital and insurance, and your Care Buddy follows bowel recovery and pelvic-floor rehabilitation for 90 days.
