Understanding Vitrectomy
Vitrectomy is keyhole surgery inside the eye. The vitreous gel is removed and replaced with fluid, gas or oil, giving the surgeon access to treat the retina.
It is used for a non-clearing bleed inside the eye, advanced diabetic retinopathy, a macular hole or pucker, a retinal detachment, or a severe infection. It is done through three tiny ports under local or general anaesthesia.
Common Symptoms
If you have one or more of these, it's worth speaking to a specialist.
Our specialists use the latest minimally invasive techniques wherever possible — smaller incisions, less bleeding and a faster return to daily life.
Every patient has a full pre-surgical evaluation to decide the most effective approach, and a multidisciplinary team supports your health before, during and after the procedure.
