Understanding Phaco Surgery
Phacoemulsification ('phaco') is the standard technique for cataract removal. Ultrasound energy breaks up the cloudy lens so it can be gently suctioned out through an incision of about 2 mm, and a foldable artificial lens is inserted.
The small, self-sealing wound usually needs no stitches, and the eye recovers quickly. It is a day-care procedure under local anaesthesia, taking 15–20 minutes.
Common Symptoms
If you have one or more of these, it's worth speaking to a specialist.
Our specialists use the latest minimally invasive techniques wherever possible — smaller incisions, less bleeding and a faster return to daily life.
Every patient has a full pre-surgical evaluation to decide the most effective approach, and a multidisciplinary team supports your health before, during and after the procedure.
