Understanding Cataract Surgery
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens that develops with age, causing blurring, glare and faded colours. Surgery is the only effective treatment and one of the most common and successful operations performed.
The cloudy lens is removed by phacoemulsification through a tiny self-sealing incision and replaced with a clear artificial lens (IOL). It is a day-care procedure taking 15–20 minutes per eye, done under local anaesthesia.
Common Symptoms
If you have one or more of these, it's worth speaking to a specialist.
Our specialists use the latest minimally invasive techniques wherever possible — smaller incisions, less bleeding and a faster return to daily life.
Every patient has a full pre-surgical evaluation to decide the most effective approach, and a multidisciplinary team supports your health before, during and after the procedure.
