Understanding Hernia Treatment

A hernia occurs when an organ or fatty tissue pushes through a weak spot in the surrounding muscle wall — most often in the groin, around the navel, or at the site of a previous surgical scar. It shows up as a bulge that may come and go.

Hernias do not heal on their own and tend to enlarge over time. The standard treatment is a laparoscopic (keyhole) repair, where the defect is closed and reinforced with a soft mesh through three small incisions — with far less pain and a quicker return to work than open surgery.

Ayushman Surgicare coordinates your surgeon consultation, pre-operative tests, hospital and insurance, and your Care Buddy follows recovery for a full 90 days.

Common Symptoms

If you have one or more of these, it's worth speaking to a specialist.

A visible bulge in the groin, abdomen or near a scar
The bulge disappears when you lie down
Aching or dragging discomfort, worse by evening
Pain when lifting, coughing or straining
A feeling of pressure or heaviness
Sudden severe pain with a hard, tender lump — seek urgent care

Our specialists use the latest minimally invasive techniques wherever possible — smaller incisions, less bleeding and a faster return to daily life.

Every patient has a full pre-surgical evaluation to decide the most effective approach, and a multidisciplinary team supports your health before, during and after the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. A truss or belt may briefly ease symptoms, but only surgery repairs the muscle defect. Delaying repair raises the small risk of the hernia becoming trapped (strangulated), which is an emergency.

DDeepika N.Umbilical Hernia Repair · Malkajgiri

SSuresh B.Laparoscopic Gallbladder Removal · Dilsukhnagar
“Both sides needed repair. Doing it laparoscopically in one sitting meant one recovery instead of two. I was walking properly the next day.”
